About Pinewood Swim Team
The Pinewood Porpoise Swim Team is a summer recreational swimming program at the Pinewood Country Club in Slidell, Louisiana. Our team consists of over 100 swimmers each summer ranging in ages from 5 to 18 years old. We compete each season in the St. Tammany Parish Swim League (STSL). Our team has been competing in the Slidell area since the early 1970's against such teams as: The Cross Gates Gators, The Picayune Tide, The Tanglewood Tarpons, The Lakeside Gators, The Magnolia Forset Marlins, The Tiki Swim Club, The Huntwyck Tornadoes, and The Biloxi Red Tide. The Pinewood Porpoise swim team prides itself on having not only the top swimming program in the Slidell area each and every summer, but also having the best family atmosphere combined with competition and fun.
Pinewood Swim Team Goals
Our purpose for having a swim team at Pinewood is to "take the potential of a child and turn it into reality." This potential includes not only their athletic achievement, but also the building of friendships, a positive attitude, motivation, and overall enjoyment in a competitive learning environment. We strongly believe that "no swimmer can start at the finish line," meaning that every child should and will have the same opportunity as each and every swimmer on our team. Regardless of their size, strength, or ability, each and every swimmer will receive the same personal attention. Sometimes, we will win. Other times we will lose. Win or lose, learning to have fun while doing both is one of our main goals. To have fun and to promote good sportsmanship through family interaction and friendly competition.
While these are indeed the main objectives of our swim team, it is very important that the swimmers and parents realize that we are in a competitive swim league environment and that each and every swimmer is an important member of the team. Therefore, it is very important that each swimmer make every attempt to attend all practices and to definitely participate in all swim meets. To always make every effort to do their very best for themselves and for their team. This is a manner in which we can achieve our goals and reach our full potential. That is, to make new friends, learn how to participate in friendly competition, practice good sportsmanship, gain confidence in themselves and in their abilities while learning and improving swimming techniques, and, to enjoy the "summer swimming" experience. We at Pinewood are very proud of the summer swim program that we have developed over the years. We work hard to keep our swimmers and our swimmer's families happy. We strive to offer the very best summer swim program that is available in St. Tammany Parish. Although we are very proud of our swimmers individual accomplishments, our team is not a venue for those focusing on any individualistic goals. We are a swim team. We want and welcome swimmers and families who enjoy the "summer swimming" experience and those who support fun, teamwork, and team spirit. We can promise that we will do everything possible to maintain the integrity of our programs purpose and to keep it on its current course.
Pinewood Swim Team Accomplishments
The Pinewood Porpoises Swim Team has been participating in summer swimming and the St. Tammany Swim League for well over 15 years. In recent years, our Porpoises have participated in many meets. Won some and lost some, but have always had lots of fun! Our swimmers like to practice. They like to swim hard at all of the swim meets and they like to eat pizza after they swim hard. They like their parents to join them. They like to see and hear their parents cheering them and their teammates on at the meets and eating pizza with them after the meets. Over the years, all of the hard swimming and pizza eating have generated results. In St. Tammany Swim League competition, from 1995 to 1999, and 2003-2005, the Porpoises were undefeated in Dual Meet competition.
